About this opportunity

<p>The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the most prominent pre-university mathematics competition in the world, held annually since 1959. Each country may send a team of six contestants, all under 20 and not yet at a tertiary institution. Singapore's team is selected and trained by the Singapore International Mathematical Olympiad Committee (SIMO).</p><ul><li>Two-day written contest: three problems per day, 4.5 hours per paper.</li><li>Medals are awarded to roughly the top half of contestants, in a gold:silver:bronze ratio of about 1:2:3; Honourable Mentions recognise a complete solution without a medal.</li><li>Singapore selection pathway: SMO Open Round 2 → SIMO Senior Group training → National Team Selection Tests → IMO.</li><li>2026 host: China; the contest is held in Shanghai in mid-July, with papers on 15 and 16 July 2026.</li><li>SIMO committee members are drawn from the NUS Department of Mathematics, MOE, and Junior College teachers.</li><li>Travel and accommodation for the Singapore team are fully covered.</li></ul>
