About this opportunity

<p>An annual essay competition run by Minds Underground that asks Year 12 students — and keen younger entrants — to explore the relationship between art, politics, culture, and society. It is pitched at developing the kind of independent critical analysis valued by Oxbridge and other leading universities for History of Art.</p><ul><li>Open to students worldwide; particularly suited to Year 12, with younger applicants and Year 13 university re-applicants also welcome</li><li>Entrants pick one of three set questions for the 2026 edition and write an essay with original thought, well-researched argument, and awareness of artistic context and critical theory</li><li>Submission deadline: 11pm UK time on 3 April 2026</li><li>Winners receive certificates, subject-specific prizes, and international recognition</li><li>Optional paid mentoring is available from Oxbridge-educated tutors; it is not required to enter</li></ul><p>Submit via the online submission form on the Minds Underground History of Art competition page.</p>
