About this opportunity

<p>The New York Times Learning Network's annual Open Letters contest invites middle and high school students worldwide to write a public-facing letter of protest or appeal to someone with the power to address an issue they care about. Now in its 13th edition of the broader student editorial contest tradition, it gives Singapore teens a way to earn a byline on a major publication.</p><ul><li>Open to students aged 13–19 worldwide, including in Singapore</li><li>Letters must be 500 words or fewer, original, and previously unpublished</li><li>Contest window for the 2025–26 cycle: 25 February to 8 April 2026 (11:59 p.m. Pacific Time)</li><li>One entry per student per year</li><li>No entry fee</li><li>Winners, runners-up, and honorable mentions are published on the NYT Learning Network website with student bylines</li></ul><p>Entries are submitted through the NYT Learning Network's official submission form during the contest window.</p>
