About this opportunity

<p>The Robert Walker Prize for Essays in Law is an annual international essay competition run by Trinity College, Cambridge, open to students in their final or penultimate year of secondary school. Named after Lord Walker of Gestingthorpe, a retired UK Supreme Court Justice and Trinity alumnus, the prize encourages students considering university Law study to research and argue a legal topic of contemporary significance.</p><ul><li>Essays up to 2,000 words (including footnotes); any consistent referencing style accepted.</li><li>2026 question: "To what extent, if any, should one country enforce the criminal law of another country?"</li><li>2026 deadline: 1pm UK time on Thursday 2 April 2026 (submissions now closed).</li><li>Entries are judged in two divisions (United Kingdom and International); first prize £300 and second prize £200 in each.</li><li>Authors of the top ten essays in each division are invited to a Prize Ceremony at Trinity to meet the Law Fellows.</li></ul><p>The competition is free to enter; the essay must be the student's own work though the subject may be discussed with teachers and peers.</p>
