About this opportunity
<p>The John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize is an annual writing competition for students worldwide under 19 years old. Essays are judged across ten subject categories – Economics, History, International Relations, Law, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, Public Policy, Science & Technology, and Theology – with scholarships to John Locke Institute programmes as the main awards.</p>
<ul>
<li>Open to any student under 19 as of 31 May 2026; no minimum age.</li>
<li>Entry is free; late submissions accepted with a fee until 21 June 2026.</li>
<li>Category prizes: 1st place USD 5,000 scholarship, 2nd USD 2,000, 3rd USD 1,000. Grand Prize across categories: USD 10,000 scholarship.</li>
<li>Registration closes 31 March 2026; submissions close 31 May 2026; shortlist announced 7 July 2026; awards ceremony 3 October 2026.</li>

<p>Students submit a single essay responding to one prompt from their chosen category.</p>
