About this opportunity
An annual essay prize from Trinity College, Cambridge for students in the first year of sixth form. Entrants answer a question from the college's list in 1,500 to 2,500 words of critical writing (not creative writing) on literature first written in English. First prize is GBP 600 and second prize GBP 400, each shared equally with the student's school, and prize-winning and highly commended writers are invited to visit the college.
Who can apply
Year 12 or Lower Sixth students (roughly JC1 or IP Year 5); Trinity runs its essay prizes for sixth-form students internationally. Essays must be written without help from the school or from AI.

Submit through the online form on the prize page. The 2026 competition closed at 12 noon UK time on 31 July 2026 with results in early September; questions and dates for 2027 are not yet published.
