<p>The Singapore Biology Olympiad (SBO) is Singapore's national selection pathway to the International Biology Olympiad (IBO). Run annually by the Singapore Institute of Biology with support from MOE, NUS, and NIE/NTU, the SBO identifies and trains Singapore's top junior college biology students.</p><ul><li>Eligibility: JC 1–2 / IP Year 5–6 biology students in Singapore schools (local or foreign); schools register their top students upon MOE invitation.</li><li>Round 1 — Theory Test (November): a 3-hour, 100-multiple-choice online paper taken at school.</li><li>Round 2 — Practical Tests (December): top ~10% of theory scorers are invited; four 1-hour lab rotations in a single day.</li><li>Medalists are then interviewed; shortlisted students join intensive training (weekly sessions with NUS/NIE academics from April–May, plus a 5-day residential camp at NIE in late May/early June).</li><li>The final "Final Four" (plus one reserve) represent Singapore at the IBO each year.</li></ul><p>Students apply via their school when invited by MOE — direct applications are not accepted.</p>
